Alfred Woodrow Powell, 83, of Anderson, former longtime resident of Spartanburg, died Friday, November 4, 2011, at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home in Anderson, SC. Born June 28, 1928, in Rosman, NC, he was the son of the late Roseman Arkeelous and Arie Agness Paxton Powell.

Mr. Powell was a World War II veteran of the U. S. Army. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg. He retired as a restaurant manager and was a former employee of Fox Pools.

Survivors include his daughter, Helen Ruth Lyons and husband Dwight of Manassas, VA; son, Rev. Dr. Richard Powell and wife LuAnne of Fort Myers, FL; grandchildren, Jeffrey Lyons, Amber Vincent, Heather Nix, Alan Powell, and Kayla Grizzard; five great-grandchildren; brother, Earl Powell of NC; and sister, Christine Newton of NC. He was predeceased by his first wife, Patsy Garner Jordan Powell and his second wife, Betsy Davis Powell; and siblings, J. D. Powell, Fred Powell, Hattie Flood, Josephine Stevens, and Nadine Thomas.

The family will receive friends 1:30-2:45 PM Tuesday, November 8, 2011, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM in the Chapel. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens–Jordan Family Mausoleum.
