Charles Bartolo Prestipino, 90, of Spartanburg, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. The eldest of six children, Charlie was born in Milford, NH, on August 12, 1921, to the late Anthony Charles and Virginia Patti Prestipino. He was preceded in death by Suoma, who was his high school sweetheart and wife of 62 years; his brother Vincent; his sisters Olivia, Rose, and Mary; and his grandson, Ryan.

Charlie received his undergraduate degree at Dartmouth College in 1946 and received an MBA from the Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth in 1947. After college, he worked for Bigelow Sanford Carpet Company in Thompsonville, Connecticut for four years before accepting an offer of employment with Milliken & Company as an accountant in 1956. In 1960, he became Director of Operation Research for several plants. One year later, he transferred to Manufacturing Operations. Over the years Charlie managed several area textile plants for Milliken but spent most of his time at Drayton Mill. He retired from Milliken & Company in 1981.

A Marine Corps veteran of World War II, he served nearly four years. He attended St. Paul's Catholic Church and was a past member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Spartanburg Development Association and the YMCA. He served on the board of Junior Achievement for several years.

Charlie is survived by his brother Bart and wife Lin, of Milford, NH; four sons; six grandchildren; and one great grandson: Tony and Sarah Prestipino of Pinehurst, NC, and their children Tony Jr. and Libby Prestipino of Columbia, SC; Kelly and Jason Risk of Wayne, PA, and their son and Charlie's great grandson, James Robert Risk; Michael Prestipino and his son Sean of Spartanburg, SC; Carl and Susan Prestipino and their daughter Niki of Spartanburg; and James and Susan Prestipino of Fishers, IN, and their children Ally and Kevin.

Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Sunday, August 5, 2012, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday, August 6, 2012, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, by the Rev. Timothy M. Gahan. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mobile Meals Service, PO Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304; or St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church Building Fund, 161 North Dean Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.

Charlie had a long and well-lived life. His unassuming patience, kindness, and wisdom will be missed.
