Bennie Horton Bishop, 84, of 1194 Shadowood Drive, died Friday, July 20, 2012, at her home. Born September 19, 1927 in Spartanburg County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Ollie Bell Malone Horton and wife of the late Leonard Phifer Bishop.
Mrs. Bishop received her B. S. Degree from Wofford College, her M. A. Degree from Furman University, her Ed.S. Degree from the University of South Carolina Spartanburg, and was a past member of AAUW and Alpha Delta Kappa. She retired as a Principal in Spartanburg County School District 2 and was a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg.
Survivors include daughters, Dianne B. Irvin of Charleston, Phyllis Y. Bishop (William Heimerdinger) of Laguna Niguel, CA, and Marsha B. Clark (Steve) of Campobello; granddaughter, Allison C. Cavendish (Kent) of Inman; great-grandchildren, Hudson Cavendish and Mary-Clark Cavendish, both of Inman; and sister, Virginia H. Powell of Boiling Springs.
Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 PM Sunday, July 22, 2012 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday July 23, 2012 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Sal Barone and the Rev. Audley Scott. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
