Tribute & Message From The Family

Doris Sewell Rudeen, 70, of Spartanburg, died Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born November 13, 1942, in Spartanburg County, she was the daughter of the late Glenn Sewell, Sr. and Virginia McCarter Sewell.

Doris was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Doris was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and attended Spartanburg Technical College. She was a bookkeeper and was instrumental in the creation and success of multiple business ventures through the years. She was the co-owner of Service Electric Co., Loving Care Daycare, DDT Construction, and DDT Investments. Doris was a licensed builder and, along with her husband, developed Tymberbrook Subdivision in Lyman. When she earned her contractor's license in the late 80's she was one of only a few women licensed in SC. She was a member of Spartanburg Gun Club for many years and SC Ladies Skeet Shooting Champion 2 years. She was a member of Ruth Memorial Presbyterian Church, no longer in existence, where she taught Sunday School and was Youth Leader. She was currently a member of First Presbyterian Church Spartanburg. In spite of having RA since she was 5 years old, she persevered and greeted each day with a smile. She loved to travel. Doris and Tommy would have celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on February 17.

She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Tommy M. Rudeen; a daughter, Donna Frady and Kevin Mills of Spartanburg; one grandson, Brett Frady and his wife Chelsea of Pacolet; three sisters, Dianne Gault and her husband Randy of Cross Hill, Judy Sewell and Marsha Smith, both of Spartanburg; a brother, Joe Sewell of Spartanburg; and a sister in law, Evelyn Rudeen Herman of Rock Hill. She was predeceased by a brother Glenn "Buck" Sewell, Jr. She will also be missed by her devoted welsh corgi "Buddy".

Visitation will be 1:30 to 2:45 PM Sunday, January 27, 2013, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Services will follow at 3:00 PM in the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Ansley Page and the Rev. Kevin Loftis. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

Thinking of you in your time of sorrow and extending heartfelt sympathy.

I will always cherish the wallpapper and fixtures Doris had part in the
house I purchased at 320 Tyger Ridge Lane. She was a very sweet person
to me.

May God Bless you and Family.

Doris was my friend for 65 years. We shared so much, and I have wonderful memories. She was a loving, giving person who cared deeply for her family and friends. We will all miss her. My deepest sympathy to her wonderful family.

It's so hard to believe that Doris has left us. She had so much pain during her entire life but I know she has no pain now. She had pain but she also had the love of many people. She was a wonderful cousin. She was always thinking about other people and never complained about her own physical problems. My dad, her uncle Louie McCarter, has been gone for many years now but Doris was one of his favorite family members, as she was ours. I know he celebrated in seeing her. We will miss her terribly. Our prayers and thoughts are with the family.

Doris was always a sweet and loving person as well as cousin. We did not get to see each other as the years went by, but kept in touch with phone calls and cards. Loved her very much. My prayers and thoughts are with the family.
