Tribute & Message From The Family

Helen Lazarowitz Price, 91, of Spartanburg, SC, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 peacefully in her sleep. She was born to the late Mary and Samuel Lazarowitz in Brooklyn, NY on July 10, 1923. Helen was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Irving (Sonny) Price.

One of Helen's greatest passions in life was education, particularly as it related to learning and teaching others about Judaism. It was her mission to ensure traditions were kept and passed along to future generations. She accomplished this by recording everything- whether it was the recipes written in her cookbook series, or through her mesmerizing style of storytelling.

Helen was a significant contributor within the local Jewish community, particularly through her work with the library at Temple B'nai Israel. In recognition of her efforts as the developer and head librarian, the library was named in her honor in 2007. Helen truly appreciated and enjoyed everyone around her, and had a unique way of making each and every person she met feel special.

She is survived by her three children, Harold (Hal) Price and wife Kim of Dallas, TX, Sandy Nabow and husband Robert of Spartanburg, SC, and Janie Price of Charleston, SC. She is also survived by her five granddaughters, Jennifer Epstein, Melissa Lesley, Amanda Goldberg, Abby Price and Chesley Price; and her great-grandson, Joey Lesley. As the youngest of five sisters (all deceased), she also leaves behind a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends whom she considered her family.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday, January 16, 2015, at Temple B'nai Israel, by Rabbi Yossi Liebowitz. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Temple B'nai Israel Helen Price Library Fund, 146 Heywood Avenue, Spartanburg, SC 29302; or McCarthy-Tezler School, 175 Burdette Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307

The family wishes to express their appreciation to Helen's caregivers for their love, compassion, and care.

The family is at the home of her daughter, Sandy Nabow.

I have many memories of the wonderful woman, named Helen.,my ex husband Bob, and my son Michael took Aunt Helen to Gatlinburg with us one summer. Her love of family, and graciousness, was always with her. We cannot ever forget, how she always sent us back to Florida when we visited with homemade baked delites. I will miss her.
